Viennese pattern magazines
and pattern sheets
This series of Viennese pattern magazines
from the early 1930's, complete with their pattern sheets, is a
really good source of inspiration.
I came across these magazines some years ago, and photocopied
them for my library. It occurred to me that others might like
to have this information, so I scanned them, and cleaned up the
scans, to create the CD, which is a PDF file of the entire magazine.
I have reproduced the pattern sheets as well, so you have the entire
set of information related to the magazines. They are written
in German, so if you know that language, you are that much ahead--but
everyone can enjoy the really beautiful illustrations of extremely
stylish clothes.
The
pattern sheets are in black and white, and are set out like the
modern day Burda patterns, with all of the lines superimposed onto
one sheet. The lines represent SEAM lines, instead of cutting lines,
so you will need to add seam allowances once you trace off a pattern.
The patterns I've experimented with from these sheets are sized
to approximately a women's size US8.
The majority of these magazines are a publication called "Die
Wienerin". Since this is in German, it is pronounced
"dee vee-EN-er-in", and translates to "lady from
Vienna", the same as "La Parisienne" translates to
"lady from Paris". Over the next few months, I will
be releasing two of these at a time, for a total of thirteen issues.
If you would like to be notified about the release of new issues,
please email me.
